Plastic Tooling for Investment Casting

Investment Casting

The investment casting process begins with wax pattern injection, followed by ceramic shell building and drying. After de-waxing, molten metal is poured into the mold. Once solidified, the ceramic shell is removed, and the cast parts are cleaned, inspected, and finished.

Advantages:

  • A wide variety of metals and alloys can be used in the investment casting process (see details below);
  • Complex geometries, including undercuts, can be produced as a single component because the mold is destroyed after casting.
  • Tooling costs are generally lower compared to many other casting methods.
  • The process provides excellent dimensional accuracy and consistently tight tolerances.
  • Cast parts feature a smooth surface finish with no visible parting lines.
  • Minimal post-casting machining is typically required, helping reduce manufacturing time and cost.
